This is a call to all Bikolano musicians. This is a call to all bands who are currently based here in Manila. This is a call to recognize that there is another common ground that we all share, aside from our passion for music, that we share a common history; that we are Bikolanos.
As the Bikol music scene has steadily grown and progressed through the years, we feel that there is also a need, and perhaps "need" would be the right word for now, a need for the musicians connect with each other, and perhaps even to reconnect with each other again.
This would, of course, bring up questions like "Why? Do we even need to connect", "For what purpose?" and etcetera, etcetara.
There is a simple answer for all this, that since we cannot deny our roots, this need to connect is a way for all of us to see where we have come from and to see where we, as a collective, are going.
There has been a lot of us who have tried, and some are still trying to organize Bikolano musicians, even for the simple purpose of awareness that more people will know, that more people will support the Bikolano bands. I'd care to mention that
http://bicolanomusician.ning.com/ is doing a great job of bringing our people together online.
We like to think big but right now I would like to start small, just a little step to start this journey of keeping the Bikolano musicians in tune, that they would belong to a greater part whereever they would find themselves.
So how do we go about this?
1. Manila. We are starting small, which means that we are only inviting and requesting Bikolano musicians here in Manila for this, and calling for their support. We would like to collect information about you or about your band; we would like to contact you so please give us the means to do so; by e-mail, mobile, etc. (Yes, all information would be confidential unless stated otherwise. As of now, I would be the only one to keep this data and no one else) And so, please if there would be someone who will spearhead this activity in other places aside from Manila, like Naga for example, please get in touch with me, then we can start from there. We need all the help we can get. Manila muna for now, then with your help sana gabos na.
2. We would be setting up an e-newsletter, e-zine for all things that Bikolano musicians are in and doing now. This would be a source for us to be updated with whatever is happening concerning us. Yes, gig schedules will be there, of course, but more importantly it will give us a way to tell all our stories. Frequency of publication would depend on your support and input, siempre.
3. We would like to see you. Yes, we would like to meet each other. It would mean everything if we can gather, this makes it more real, truer to the sense that like music, it is best experienced live. We would like to schedule a meeting if possible somewhere in the middle of August, place being suggested would be somewhere near the Ortigas area.
I have been using the collective "We" because I am not doing this alone, because as of now I have the support of a few of my friends, a number of bands, all Bikolanos, that this plan is something good, that this would mean something for all of us, and that we can do this.
For any questions, comments, suggestions and feedback please e-mail me at this address source.files@gmail.com (please e-mail me here also concerning you/your band's contact information). We need you.
This is also a call to all the people who support these bands and the persons behind them. This is a call to come together.
